4 Months Old

This month has been a tough one, let me tell ya!

After getting into a nice routine where you had started to consistently sleep through the night your reflux decided to flare up again. All of a sudden the Gaviscon wasn't working anymore, you were vomiting more than ever & were writhing around in pain at night keeping us all awake. Back to the doctors we went for some Rantidine (Dexter had the same stuff when he had it as a baby). A couple of days in, this seemed to start having the positive effect we hoped it would do & things seemed to be settling back down.

A week later, oh hello teething pain - so nice of you to show up! Just what we needed; a drooling, cranky baby that is only happy chomping on something to ease the discomfort. This was doing nothing for your mood.

And if that wasn't enough BANG! you decided to hit the 4 month regression a couple of weeks early. I remember blogging about it with Dexter but I had honestly hadn't remembered quite how rotten this stage was :( Let's see:
  • Increased fussiness? Check!
  • Multiple night wakings? Check!
  • Reduced naps? Check!
  • Change in appetite? Check!
We'd got it all! But supposedly, when the fog lifts you get rewarded with all these fantastic new skills that you will suddenly be able to fathom. They'd better be bloody good, that's all I can say. Month 4 can totally do one! We finally seem to be coming out of the other side on this one so it's all about looking forward to month 5 now :)

But the last month hasn't been all bad. In fact, in and amongst the clouds there have been some pretty awesome beams of sun shine through!

At 14 weeks, 3 days old you did a full on belly laugh for the first time.

At 14 weeks, 4 days old you managed to hold a mini-push up.

At 14 weeks, 5 days old you did a proper back-to-front roll then at 15 weeks, 2 days old you managed a front-to-back roll too...

At 16 weeks, 2 days old you cut your first tooth and by 17 weeks you'd got two coming through!

June brought with it a couple of lovely sunny days so we seized the opportunity to have our first BBQ of the year as a family of four. You lounged in the sun, took in the fresh air and had a little dip in the pool with your brother.

In the last few weeks, you seem to prefer sleeping on your side which is funny because Dexter was exactly the same.

And after three months of managing to escape it, not once but TWICE in the last few weeks, we've been subjected to poonami's sooo bad that they have required a full outfit change (bleurgh!) We'd done so well to get this far & whilst it sounds like it belongs in the negative pile (it does at the time) it's something to totally laugh about after the event haha.

Last but not least, here are your stats. I intend to use this to gauge how little you were at each point in time when I look back on this in years to come and get all emotional about it haha
  • You currently wear size 3 nappies
  • You are in a mixture of 0-3 month & 3-6 month clothes
  • You are in 3-6 month sleepsuits & pyjamas
And when the health visitor did your 3 month check on 8th June, at 15 weeks old you weighed 13lb 7oz and were back on the 50th centile for weight

So despite these ups & downs, you are speeding ahead with so many things already! If the next few weeks are to be filled with witnessing you reaching even more wonderful milestones then I really can't wait :) xx

Today you got your first tooth...

It's actually been coming for about a week now and it broke through the surface to make it's (teeny tiny) appearance a couple of days ago but do you know how hard it is to get a picture of a baby's gums?!

But there it is - you can just about make it out....

Today you rolled...

You were rolling onto your side before you were 2 months old.

You were rolling onto your front before you were 3 months old.

But then you got stumped. You could get on to your front, but how do you get that damn arm out from underneath yourself? That was the problem! Everytime you tried to pull it free you ended up rolling yourself back the way you came :P

So, last week (with the help of holding on to my finger to tether yourself down) you managed to get all the way over and get your arm out. It was assisted. It didn't count :(

A day or two later, I was busy in the kitchen and came back in to you on your tummy with both your arms free, flapping around like a seal, whining for my attention. I didn't see it happen. It didn't count :(

Earlier this week your big strong arms finally managed to get you into a mini push-up position and hold you up.

So today when you rolled, you got on your front and freed your arm. I got the camera. And then you just kept on going.... roly poly-ing back onto the other side. You looked so pleased with yourself.

I was a little bit gutted. I'd missed the start. I've wanted to blog about you rolling for ages and was just waiting to capture you in the act. That was it, we had to try again...

So after 9 WHOLE MINUTES of patience, crawling around you on the blanket and coaxing you to reach for various toys, I got it!!!!!! A full sequence of pictures of you demonstrating your new skill ;)

Back to front..... and back again. Age: 15 weeks, 2 days old xx

Today you laughed...

You have been making delicate little giggles for a few weeks but tonight Dexter sat talking to you at the dinner table and out came this unmistakable belly laugh - a proper laugh out loud! You clearly think your brother is funny because he kept you going for ages :D
